Infection from the new COVID-19 strain, Omicron, can help reduce the risk of possible Delta variant infection, according to a study published by South African scientists. “If we are lucky, omicron is less pathogenic, and this immunity will help push delta out,” said Alex Sigal, co-author. The likelihood of someone infected with omicron being reinfected by delta is limited, therefore Delta will no longer be a dominant strain. Omicron was first detected in South Africa this year and it caused the 4th wave.
