New Delhi: The World Health Organisation has instructed all countries to enhance surveillance of covid-19 restrictions due to the sudden hike of cases worldwide. The global health body says the virus is on the rise because of declining test rates and that it is foolish to assume that the virus has completely disappeared. The world is still ‘blind’. Meanwhile, US Vice President Kamala Harris tested positive for covid-19 and the number of covid cases is increasing in the White House.
China started to increase testing due to the continuous surge of covid variants and Shanghai city has been closed for a month. As a result, business professionals and other workers in the city have been forced to move back to Hong Kong. Meanwhile, Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan declared that the government is going to lift all restrictions including indoor mask-wearing.
WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that the countries are reducing the number of tests and the organisation is not receiving any updates about virus transmission. He also urged the authorities to maintain information properly. According to a US nationwide blood survey, after the outbreak of the Omicron variant, more than 75% of children and of 58% of the overall population were infected with the virus.
