Vitamin A is a fat-soluble retinoid and is involved in immune function, development and cellular communication. There are mainly two types of Vitamin A, preformed vitamin A (Retinol) and Provitamin A (Carotenoids). Preformed vitamins are found in animal products, fortified foods and vitamin supplements. Provitamin A is derived from plant products. Primarily, Vitamin A helps to produce white blood cells and also it is essential for eye health.

Vitamin A is loaded with antioxidants, which help to reduce the risk of cancer. It maintains the balance and function of the skin, the lining of the respiratory tract, the gut and the bladder. It helps in the development of egg and sperm in reproduction and also helps in placental health and fetal growth. Dairy products such as butter, milk and cheese, liver, fish oil, fish liver and egg yolk are the major animal sources of Vitamin A.
