10 Proven Morning Routines That Guarantee A Great Day

Many of us want to alter some of our habits to make our lives more pleasant, fulfilling and purposeful. New year is an example when all of us tend to decide on that major change that we want to see in our life. But how many of us stick to what we have decided beyond a week? We might blame a whole host of external environment for not meeting what we want to achieve.

Even if you are not changing your entire day to get into a more healthier and meaningful lifestyle, just changing your morning routine alone will help you see many benefits.  

Psychologists and experts say there are many benefits if you start your day well. Altering your morning routine shall help you get more value out of your day.

Every day is a new day for people with opportunities waiting for them. And, your day is as good as you make it.

Some of the following recommendations are science-backed and they shall help you get more out of your day and also help you see more meaning in your life.

1. Wake up early

‘Early to bed and early to rise makes a person healthy, wealthy and wise’.

This is a quote you have been hearing since your baby days. The fact is it has a lot to it.

In order to experience a great dayyou have to let go of the one behaviour that keeps you from attaining health, wealth and wisdom; procrastination. And according to studies procrastination would lead to poorer performance and lesser satisfaction.

As per a study published in the journal of general health in 2008, people who wake up early are less likely to procrastinate as opposed to staying up late. When you stay up late you are subjecting your brain to more strain. This will make you want to take more rest whereas early risers will have a fresh brain that finished the process of ‘rebooting’ and ready to work.

Try to make it a routine and do it in steps. For e.g.: your aim should be to wake up at 6 am. If you are used to waking up late then wake up 15 mins early the next day. Then wake up 10 mins earlier the day after that until you reach your goal. Keep your handy alarm clock near you and your resolution should avoid hitting the ‘snooze’ button.

2. Let natural light in your room

Go with the flow.

The moment you step outside the bed, go ahead and move the curtains and open windows to let the sunlight in. Sunlight brings about a sense of positivity in a person’s mind. Sunlight is also a natural provider of Vitamin D and increases serotonin in your brains.

Serotonin will prevent depression called Seasonal Affective Disorder ( SAD) where one of the major inducing factors is lack of vitamin D. Sunlight also kills fungi and other pathogens in the room and help in getting rid of pungent odours. There are hospitals that use natural sunlight to help patients heal faster. Similarlyschools that are naturally lit or has open classrooms help students study and function faster and better.

3. Stretch

Stretch your arms, elbows, knees and toes. This helps in proper circulation of blood and prevents spasm up to a certain extent. Just stand on your feet and do it. It takes less than 2 minutes of your time.

4. Tidy your room

First things first, make your room. Make your bed sheet and fold your blankets. Don’t depend on anyone else to do the same. Your bed should look new and ready. During summer season keep your blankets exposed to the sunlight to get rid of your body’s sweat and moisture.

5. How About Some lemon juice?

Lemon juice is a favourite drink of the mass. The lovely citrus aroma is refreshing enough. Apart from its function of satisfying the taste buds, lemon juice contains Vitamin C that is beneficial for your body.

6. Yoga

7. Cold shower

According to Dr Joseph Mercola, a cold shower every morning will increase the body’s immunity and blood circulation as the arteries will pump more blood and also lower blood pressure. Why a cold shower may be more beneficial for health than a warm one.

Cold shower induces the ‘brown fat’ in our body to generate heat and thus it can help a great deal to reduce unwanted weight.

Apart from the above reasons, coldness of the water will increase your brain’s alertness and reduce mild depression. So take a cold shower every morning instead of a warm one.

8. Make a list of things to do

This is a very important process that will help you deal with stress. Write down a list of things to do in a journal and strike them after getting it done.  This shall also give you a sense of accomplishment.

9. Review your expenses
