'Bigg Boss' is a popular and widely viewed reality show produced by Endemol Shine India and it is based on the international game show 'Big Brother' series. The concept of the show became popular after Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty won the British show 'Big Brother 5', that too after facing a severe degree of racial bullying from her co-contestants including the likes of Jade Goody and Danielle Lloyd.
The show made its debut on television in 2006 through Sony TV with Arshad Warsi as the host with a set built at Lonavla. Eventually, Shetty replaced Arshad Warsi as the host, followed by Amitabh Bachchan who took over season three. Today, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is hosting the show for over eleven seasons.
'Bigg Boss' shows involve locking up contestants who come from different backgrounds such as films, television, sports, politics, social activism, LGBTQIA, and other fields.
They are locked in a house with over 150 cameras and have to follow tasks by a secret eye who is called 'Bigg Boss.'
Contestants are nominated for eviction each week either by their co-contestants or through a game where the losers get nominated.
The public will vote for their favourite contestant based on their personality, charisma, or ability to play the game.
Each week, the nominated person with the least number of votes will be evicted from the house.
The contestants are not permitted to have a phone, laptop, books, or any other forms of entertainment or escape.
So far, thirteen seasons have been conducted successfully and fourteen seasons will air soon with Salman as the host.
Out of the 13 previous winners, six of them are women. Here are those women who won the 'Bigg Boss' trophy.
Shweta Tiwari is the first woman to win the trophy. She aced her game and won the hearts of the audience in the fourth season, winning over the first runner up, WWE wrestler Dalip Singh Rana or The Great Khali.
Shweta faced a severe degree of bullying from her co-contestant Dolly Bindra who tried to taunt her with "outside information."
She received the highest number of votes and support. She also stood up for her co-contestant Sameer Soni who faced eviction. He had stood up against Bindra while she bullied Shweta.
Outside 'Bigg Boss' she has two children. She starred in 'Parvarrish,' 'Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo,' 'Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi' and 'Begusarai.'
She is seen with Varun Badola on TV show, 'Mere Dad Ki Dulhan.'
Juhi Parmar became popular as a television personality as Kumkum in the television series 'Kumkum – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan.' She won the fifth season of 'Bigg Boss' over Mahek Chahal. She survived 14 weeks to win the trophy.
Today, the actress is very active on Instagram and shared pictures of herself with her family.
She is all set to return to the small screen as a lead character on TV show, 'Hamari Wali Good News.'
Urvashi Dholakia won the sixth season over her co-contestant Imam Siddiqui who himself was embroiled in several controversies during the show, including a verbal spat with Salman Khan.
Dholakia was constantly described as a strong contestant with a clear cut stance on issues within the house.
Prior to that, she had married at the age of 16 and gave birth to twin boys. She raised them as a single mother.
Today, she is seen in prominent roles in 'Badi Door Se Aaye Hai' and 'Chandrakanta — Ek Mayavi Prem Gaatha.'
Gauahar Khan earned her spot in the media initially with her romance with co-contestant Kushal Tandon. However, Gauahar emerged as a strong player who stood her ground.
Gauahar is known for solving in-house fights and for taking a stand against injustice. When her boyfriend was expelled from the house for attacking VJ Andy, over his derogatory comments on women in the house, Gauahar herself stepped out with him.
She won the trophy over Tanishaa Mukherjee who was another favourite constant of the audience.
Despite having fights and tensions between the house, Gauahar extended good wishes and words for Tanishaa after the show.
Gauahar remained active with the 'Bigg Boss' team. She will play a crucial role in 'Bigg Boss 14.'
She was last seen in the web series 'The Office.'
'Bigg Boss 11' is the most popular season filled with perks, loud fights, controversies, and competitive contestants. Vikas Gupta earned his spot as mastermind during his slick game. Bandagi Kalra and Puneesh Sharma became romantic and are still going strong.
Plenty of memes showed up on social media after Hina Khan cried over the sacrifice of her 'Winnie The Pooh' doll.
Shilpa Shinde faced both flowers and bricks from the audience. She won the game although the audience, at the time, rooted for either Vikas Gupta or Hina Khan.
Shilpa was slammed for bullying her contestants especially Vikas Gupta and at one point, she reduced him to tears.
Today, she had made a comeback on comedy show 'Gangs of Filmistan' but dropped out citing mistreatment.
'Bigg Boss 12' is regarded as the most boring season due to the constant lack of interest or enthusiasm shown by the contestants. Dipika Kakar Ibrahim was regarded as the only relief of the show by the critics and fans.
She was already a popular TV actress, known for her role as a makkhi (fly) in 'Sasural Simar Ka', Dipika was the hot favourite despite all the support her co-contestant Sreesanth received on social media.
The brother-sister relationship between Sreesanth and Dipika was the highlight of the show.
She was bullied on the show for being too "fake" as a celebrity contestant, for crying too much, and for taking over the kitchen duties most of the time.
Dipika's popularity was fuelled by her gracefulness and as tagged as 'face of grace.'
Dipika appeared in the TV series 'Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum' and is active on Instagram. Her relationship with her husband Shoaib is admired by her followers.
