Actress Shilpa Shetty was one of the contestants in the British reality show 'Celebrity Big Brother 5' which is the international version of 'Bigg Boss'. During her stay, Shilpa was subjected to a severe degree of racism and bullying.

She was specifically targeted by Jade Goody, Jo O'Meara, Jack Tweed and Danielle Lloyd. Lloyd called her a dog and refused to eat food items made by her. Goody said that she had to go and live in the slums during an argument. Goody also called her a wide range of swearwords.

However, the racism led to reckoning in Britain where many sponsors of the 'Big Brother' series cancelled their sponsorship to the show. Office of Communications conducted an investigation and ruled that Channel 4 had breached the Broadcasting Code. Prime Minister of Britain at the time Tony Blair and London mayor Ken Livingstone condemned the racism against Shetty.

All of Shetty's bullies were evicted by the public from the show. With 63% votes, Shilpa emerged as the winner of the show.

Shilpa said in an interview with Jonathan Ross that she does not regret even a second on the show because of the conversations related to racism that came with it.

Shilpa hosted the first few seasons of 'Bigg Boss' and her former rival Goody was one of the contestants.
