Women smile more times than men, according to a study by Yale Research.
Average woman smiles 62 times a day while a man smiles only 8 times a day, but with aging, they begin to smile an equal number of times.
Marianne LaFrance, professor of psychology at Yale, reiterated that this has less to do with gender and more to do with cultural, ethnic and other differences.
Each culture overlays men and women with rules about appropriate behavior for men and women. For eg: women are expected to smile more than men, according to the study published in the journal Psychological Bulletin.
Added to that, women tend to "break into a smile" due to social conditioning. Also called, ’Emotion work’, women do this as it is one of the best ways to do this is to smile to soothe hurt feelings, to restore harmony.
