Voice artists do not often get the recognition they deserve even though they have given life countless iconic characters. You may not know the artist’s name but you definitely have listened to their voice numerous times. All your favourite animated movies are powered by talented voice artists who can transform into a child or a villain. Many of your favourite actors have also been indebted to voice artists. Here are some of the best women voice artists in the world.

1) Tara Strong

Canadian-American voice actress Tara Strong is most popular for giving voice to Bubbles in The Powerpuff Girls. She found her love for acting while working with the Yiddish Theatre as a child. In a play called A Night of Stars, she sang Lay Down Your Arms with a choir. Tara bagged her first major cartoon role in Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theater at the age of 13. She won an Interactive Achievement Award for her role as Rikku in Final Fantasy X-2 in 2004. Some of her notable works are The New Batman Adventures, Ben 10, Teen Titans, and Spirited Away.

2) Mona Ghosh Shetty

Indian voice artist Mona Ghosh Shetty is known for working in Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Odia, Urdu, and English languages. She has also dubbed some advertisements to south Indian languages even though she does not speak all of them. When an English movie is dubbed to Hindi, Mona is often the first artist to call. She is a known voice in Bollywood as well. Dushman, Raaz, Jism, Rockstar, Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, Om Shanti Om, Ishq Vishk, and Kal Ho Naa Ho are some of the many movies in which Mona gave voice to the leading ladies like Bipasha Basu, Kajol, Deepika Padukone, Amrita Rao, and Preity Zinta.

3) Rie Kugimiya

Japanese voice actor Rie Kugimiya is most popular for playing Alphonse Elric in the anime series Fullmetal Alchemist. Some of her other popular roles are  Louise in The Familiar of Zero, Nagi Sanzenin in Hayate the Combat Butler, and Taiga Aisaka in Toradora! She is nicknamed Queen of Tsundere by fans because she voiced several tsundere heroines. Tsundere is the term for a character who is initially cold and hot-headed but gradually transforms into a warmer person. 

4) Deepa Venkat

Deepa Venkat is a Tamil actress who rose to popularity by playing the lead in over 80 TV shows. She later found much success as a voice artist and has given voice to leading actors like Simran, Jyothika, Nayanthara, Anushka Shetty, and Kajal Aggarwal. She was honoured with the prestigious Kalaimamani award by the state government. Some of her recent hits are Mookuthi Amman, Game Over, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, and Rudhramadevi.

5) Nancy Cartright

American voice actress Nancy Cartright is most popular for playing Bart Simpson on the hit TV show The Simpsons. She also gives voices to some other characters on the show like Nelson Muntz, Todd Flanders, and Maggie. She trained alongside Daws Butler in 1978, and her first professional role was in the animated series Richie Rich. She has won a Primetime Emmy Award and Annie Award. Some of her popular projects are The Snorks, Animaniacs, Goof Troop, The Replacements, and All Grown Up.

6) Parignya Pandya Shah

Indian voice actress Parignya Pandya Shah has worked in many projects to dub from English to Hindi. She gave voice to Hermione Granger in the Hindi version of Harry Potter movies from 2004 onwards. Later, she was chosen to dub for Emma Watson in Ballet Shoes, The Bling Ring, and Noah. Some of her other popular projects are the High School Musical series (for Vanessa Hudgens), Twilight series (for Kirsten Stewart), and Fast and Furious (for Elsa Pataky). 

7) Jennifer Hale

Canadian-American voice actor Jennifer Hale is known for video game franchises like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur's Gate, Metal Gear Solid, Metroid Prime, and Mass Effect. She has been called the Meryl Steep of the voice acting profession by journalist Tim Bissel. Hale once said that she loves the anonymity her work provides. She has also worked in animation projects like Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, and The Powerpuff Girls.

8) Bhagyalakshmi

Bhagyalakshmi is one of the best voice artists in the Malayalam film industry and has worked in over 4000 films. In 2012, her autobiography Swarabhedangal won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Biography and Autobiography. Some of her hits are Bodyguard, Classmates, My Boss, Thanmatra, Ananthabhadram, Minnaram, and Manichitrathazhu. She has given voice to many leading actresses of the industry including Sumalatha, Menaka, Nadia Moidu, Urvashi, Revathi, Lissy, Shobhana, Parvathy, Suhasini, Vani Viswanath, Meena, and Samyuktha Varma.

9) Laura Bailey

American voice actor and director Laura Bailey launched her career when she was 18 by playing  Kid Trunks in the Funimation dub of Dragon Ball Z. She is most popular for playing Catwoman in Batman and Mary Jane-Watson in Spiderman. Bailey later branched out to video games. One of her most remarkable projects is giving voice to Black Widow in the 2020 Avengers video game and TV show Avengers Assemble. Some of her other popular video games are World of Warcraft, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim-Dawnguard, First Light, and Fire Emblem: Awakening.

10) Maaya Sakamoto

Japanese singer, voice actress Maaya Sakamoto is most popular for playing Hitomi Janzaki in the hit anime TV show The Vision of Escaflowne. She also voiced Padme Amidala in the Japanese localisation of Star Wars films and series. She has been working as a singer along with her voice acting career. Some of her most popular anime projects are Birdy the Mighty, Monogatari, The Garden of Sinners, Sword Art Online, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She also gave voice to video games like Dead or Alive, Persona 3, Final Fantasy XIII.

11) Aoi Yuki

Japanese anime voice actress star Aoi Yuki has worked in television shows, video games, and theatrical animations. Her first role was as Murasaki Kuhoin in Kure-nai in 2008. She went on to play the female protagonist Iris in Pokemon: Best Wishes and Victorique de Blois in Gosick. Some of her most popular projects are My Hero Academia, The Saga of Tanya the Evil, Sword Art Online, Healin' Good PreCure, and The Seven Deadly Sins.
