Late Indian politician Sushama Swaraj may have been the most popular and sassy Minister of External Affairs India has ever had. She was the second woman to hold office and always thrived to prove that she belongs there. She was also the youngest cabinet minister of Haryana as she was elected at the age of 25. The US daily Wall Street Journal called her "India's best-loved politician". She is most popular for making the best of Twitter to be in touch with the public. Sushama Swaraj was born in Ambala, Haryana and her parents hailed from Lahore, Pakistan. She earned her bachelor's degree in Sanskrit and political science. And later, went on to pursue a law degree at Punjab University. She won the award of 'best Hindi speaker' for three consecutive years while she was in college.
She started her career as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of India. Her political career began with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and later joined Bharatiya Janata Party after the emergency.
She became the State President of Janata Party in Haryana at the age of 27 and soon became the Education Minister of Haryana from 1987-1990. Within the next decade, she joined the Union Cabinet and resigned in 1998 to take over as the Chief Minister of Delhi. She was the first-ever woman to be in that position. During her political career, she has been the Union Minister I&B & Telecommunications, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Union Health Minister, Leader of Opposition, and Minister of External Affairs.
It was her role as the Minister of External Affairs that brought her the most fame. She won hearts for playing a crucial role in bringing back a hearing and speech-impaired Indian girl named Gita who was stranded in Pakistan for 15 years.
