PATNA:  19-year-old Sweety Kumari from Bihar is picked as the “international young player of the year” by reputed women’s rugby website Scrumqueens for her exemplary skills in the sport.

She was also declared by Asia's Rugby as the continent's fastest player.

Sweety is from Nawada village in Barh Tehsil of Patna, and she had displayed exceptional talent in the sport at a very young age.

Due to her exemplary skills in rugby, her teammates gave her nickname India’s “Scoring Machine”.

Scrumqueens lauded her by saying that she has made a big impact since the beginning. She will do great service for Asia with her power and pace. She made top scores in India's sevens tournament as well in matches against Singapore.

Sweety regarded her father for making who she is by putting her head of others in every way. He convinced the coaches to train her and in return, she will win matches for them.

In her home state, Sweety's fame motivated the government to elevate rugby to the level of cricket and offered jobs to talented players.

She also started getting attention from fans who asked for pictures and autographs.

She considers American Sevens stars Perry Baker and Carlin Isles as her role models and choose to watch their videos when compared to films.

The status of women in sports has changed over the last decade. Sania Mirza made a niche for herself in Tennis. Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu made it to the hearts of Indians with their victories at the Olympics.

In Gymnastics, Dipa Karmakar immortalised the Produnova vault with her skills.

Hima Das and Dutee Chand made their marks in athletics and further achievements. Sports is not limited to the number of trophies won by Indian men's cricket.
