Experts Praise Finance Minister's New Initiative On Mental Health

NEW DELHI: Mental health experts and others praised Indian government's plan to set up a National Tele-Mental Health program in the country, as announced by Finance Minister during the budget reading session in the parliament.
23 telemental health centres will be set up across the country with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) serving as the nodal centre.
This will help people gain proper and easy access to mental health services.
The fact that COVID-19 pandemic related lockdown and economic recession had affected mental health of the people badly, has been the topic of interest.
“This is an amazing development. It’s a rare moment, maybe even the first time, that someone that too a leader has mentioned mental health at such a huge level," said consulting psychiatrist Dr Rahul Khemani.
