BRICS Leaders Want Afghan Situation Settled By Peaceful Means

NEW DELHI: Leaders at the five-nation BRICS summit called for settling the situation in Afghanistan through peaceful means. The summit was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

Leaders also sought an inclusive intra-Afghan dialogue so as to ensure stability, civil peace, law and order.

They also addressed the humanitarian situation and to uphold human rights, including those of women, children and minorities, as emphasised by the New Delhi Declaration adopted at the end. 

The five nations included are Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

Russian President Vladimir Putin mentioned possible threats posed by an unstable government in Afghanistan. 

"US and its allies' withdrawal from Afghanistan has created a new crisis," said Putin.
