NEW DELHI: Union Home Ministry has simplified rules for issuing OCI (overseas citizen of India) cards.
New rules include that a person registered as an OCI cardholder after turning 20 now does not need a new card on issue of a fresh passport.
A senior official said that this new role is to facilitate OCI cardholders.
For updates OCI cardholders, there will also be no travel restriction - to/from India.
OCI card is for foreigners of Indian Origin and spouses of foreign origin of Indian citizens, to help them enter, stay and travel in India.
Government of India has issued 37.72 lakh card to people outside India.
Some of the new rules also include; each time cardholders under the age of 20 get a new passport they have to upload a copy of that document.
