MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone recalled her struggle with clinical depression, saying that her mother noticed how she cried differently.
Whenever she broke down, her mother Ujjala Padukone realised how it was 'different' and 'it wasn’t the usual boyfriend issue or work stress.'
During her session in the clubhouse, Padukone said that she often broke down after she started feeling depressed.
"I felt empty, directionless and it just felt life had no meaning or purpose. I couldn’t feel anything physically or emotionally. I just felt this void... I felt this for days, weeks and months," she said.
In 2015, she launched 'The Live, Love, Laugh Foundation' to help people deal with mental health issues.
This year, she launched a new initiative to provide assistance to frontline workers in overcoming mental health issues during the pandemic.
Through the initiative 'Frontline Assist,' the sale proceeds from the Deepika Padukone Closet will go to NGO Sangath's dedicated work.
