NEW DELHI: Election Commission of India (ECI) directed the chief secretaries of states and union territories to file first information reports (FIRs) against people who are crowding to celebrate election victories.

West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry are seeing the results of the elections and people have taken to streets to celebrate the early trends itself.

Election Commission has taken serious note of reports of people ignoring coronavirus disease (Covid-19) guidelines and gathering at various places.

Station house officers (SHO) of the concerned police stations should be suspended in view of their failure to ensure people followed protocols.

ECI had released a three-layer plan to ensure there is no spread of Covid-19 which included that candidates or polling agents will be allowed in counting halls only if they are negative or fully vaccinated.

ECI was also recently blamed by the Madras High court for letting the campaigns and polls happen.

EC moved Supreme Court against HC's comments which accused them of murder.
