MUMBAI: Shree Ekvira Aai Pratishthan (SEAP) filed complaints with state bodies and the Bombay High Court-appointed wetland grievance redressal committee regarding the landfill near the flamingo sanctuary.

The environmentalist group expressed that the leachate from Kanjurmarg dumping ground, as well as the stagnant water, has killed fish over a two-hectare mangrove forests’ area in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai between Bhandup and Kanjur.

They had visited the site near the Eastern Express Highway and the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary and they reported that hundreds of dead fish were floating in and along the edges of the creek.

They added that due to the stagnant water as a result of the landfill, the natural tidal flow of this mangrove stretch seems to have been blocked.
