Religious Leader Mar Chrysostom Dies At 103

Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom, died at a private hospital in Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district at the age of 103.

He is one of the oldest religious leaders in India, often known as a priest of wit and wisdom and for publicly criticising rigid beliefs and fundamentalists. 

He was the senior-most Metropolitan of the Malankara Marthoma church headquartered in Thiruvalla.

As the "father of wit and wisdom", he stood firmly on his secular beliefs. 

With a career span of 68 years, he was the world’s longest-serving bishop and was well-known for his warm friendship with all across religions.

In 2018, he was awarded with the country’s highest civilian honour of Padma Bhushan.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala, former Chief Minister Oomen Chandy, and Congress Working Committee member A.K. Antony expressed their condolescence.
