Pay Compensation To Falsely Implicated Activists, Lawyers: NHRC

RAIPUR: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) officials ordered compensation of Rs 1 lakh each for 13 human rights activists and lawyers who were falsely implicated by Chhattisgarh Police.

NHRC told the state government to compensate activists including Delhi University (DU) Professor Nandini Sundar who raised the issue of tribals’ rights violations in the Bastar region in the year 2016.

NHRC highlighted two cases filed by the Chhattisgarh Police in the Bastar region in 2016; at Tongpal police station and Kishtaram police station of Sukma district.

NHRC order is directed to the director-general of police (DGP), Chhattisgarh, DM Awasthi and took suo motu cognisance of the alleged harassment and intimidation to the human rights activists and lawyers by police.
