Tripura State Education Minister Ratanlal Nath announced that the state government has approved a proposal to provide free sanitary napkins to all school girls.
School going girls from sixth to twelfth grade will be provided with free sanitary napkins, in a landmark win for menstrual hygiene.
Under this scheme Kishori Suchita Abhiyan, the government covers a total of 1,68,252 students.
Menstrual taboos and lack of proper menstrual hygiene are prominent reasons as to why girls are coerced to drop out of schools.
India now focuses on eradicating period poverty and increasing awareness about menstrual hygiene so that women and girls get to live lives with dignity.
