Varanasi has come up with a smart city project of 3000 surveillance cameras and 22 facial recognition cameras. They will be installed at 720 locations across the city to develop the surveillance system.
Chief executive officer and municipal commissioner Gaurang Rathi said that the facial recognition camera project is being implemented using sophisticated Indian, European, and American technology.
The number of facial recognition cameras may be increased in the future. The main goal is to nab criminals. The facial recognition cameras will be connected to the Kashi Integrated Command Control Centre (KICCC).
The project is worth 128 crores and it is likely to be completed in March 2021.
