Yemeni women started a cafe for women with the hopes to change attitudes about women-led businesses in the highly conservative and sexist society.
Um Feras set up the Morning Icon cafe in Marib, Yemen, in April last year.
She said that women lack access to safe luxury spaces and decided to set up this cafe.
She added that conservative society in the country is against women working outside their homes and her project is new and strange for some local people.
Wadad, a medical student and cafe customer, said she was drawn to the cafe’s internet connection as there were fewer spaces for women students.
In a country battered by conflict, disease, and an increasingly severe economic crisis, running a business is not easy, especially for women.
