The 42nd annual general meeting (AGM) of Reliance Industries Ltd and the government’s move on abrogation of Article 370, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir, happened within a span of a few days.
In the AGM, held in Mumbai on Monday, RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani declared his group’s commitment towards the development of people in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Ambani, however, said this commitment is the group’s response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for the business fraternity to support the development of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Ambani announced that the Reliance Industries Ltd will set up a special task force for developmental activities in J&K and Ladakh.
He also said that many other announcements can be expected in the coming days that are targeted at the development of people in Jammu&Kashmir and Ladakh.
The Centre on Monday scrapped Article 370 of the Constitution on August 5. The move came after tightened security in Jammu and Kashmir.
The government had imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in the state. The government cut all communication lines including internet and mobile services. Several top level leaders including former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti were put under house arrest.
On August 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation about the decision on Kashmir. In his address, the PM called for more investments in Jammu and Kashmir.
Modi even invited Bollywood and Telugu film industry to shoot their films in the visually appealing locations of Kashmir.
