Assam Floods: Rain Continues; NDRF Evacuated 56 people from Matia

Heavy rainfall in Assam for the past three days has led to rising water levels in the Brahmaputra and tributary Krishnai river. The overflowing river has affected the lives in Hawra Ghat village and the Goalpara region.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) evacuated 56 people from Matia, Goalpara on Monday. The team managed to reach the flood-affected village in time and transport locals to safety. The total number of locals evacuated this monsoon has reached 1,450.

12 search and rescue teams have been deployed in Assam. Most affected districts are Jorhat, Bongaigaon, Kamrup Metro, Dhubri, Barpeta, Goalpara, Golaghat, Cachar, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, and Tinsukia.

The flood has affected 24 districts in Assam and is causing damages to 1,09,600.53 hectares of farms. Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that 2,254 villages are in trouble due to rising water levels. Over 24 lakh people in the state are being affected. The government has set up 276 relief camps and 192 relief distribution centres.
