Severe Rain Leaves Rivers In West And South India

Heavy rain lashed several parts of west and southern India, leaving rivers Krishna, Cauvery, Tungabhadra, Bhima, Kapila (Kabini) and many others in Malnad and coastal Karnataka in spate.

Maharashtra state disaster management officials said that 129 people have died in rain-related incidents in the state in two days. 

People died in landslides and were also swept away in floodwaters. 

Maharashtra government announced an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh each to the kin of people who have died in landslides triggered by heavy rains.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the situation is being monitored closely and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased.
