Children are the most affected in this third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to experts.
The third wave of the pandemic is led by the Omicron variant which was first reported in South Africa.
Omicron is believed to be more contagious when compared to both Delta variant and original strain of SARS-CoV-2.
Due to the fact that Omicron is more contagious, more kids are being infected, said Dr. Rakesh Lodha, Head, Professor, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, AIIMS, Delhi.
Currently, the vaccination drive does not include anyone below 15 years of age.
"It's believed to be more than seven, some groups have estimated even to be close to 10 or more than 10. And in that scenario, it comes close to measles which is a highly contagious disease that we see children," he said.
