India has recorded 39,361 new Covid-19 cases and 416 related deaths in the last 24 hours. Today's daily count is only marginally lower than yesterday's. The test positivity rate is at 3.41% and has gone over 3% after 34 days.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the state will be extending the statewide curfew to 7 Am on August 2nd.

Kerala is still contributing the most number of cases and reported 17,466 cases yesterday. Despite the high vaccination, the state has recorded 1,10,593 new cases in the past week, amounting to 41% of all cases in the country.

A new variant of coronavirus was recently identified in the UK. The investigation has confirmed 16 cases. The new strain is called B.1.621. The Public Health department of England stated that there is no evidence to suggest that the new variant will make vaccines less effective or cause more severe illness.

China has reported 76 new cases of Covid-19 and it is the highest daily rise since January. Authorities are testing millions of people in the eastern Jiangsu province. The provincial capital Jiangsu has been put under lockdown. 9.2 million residents are about to be tested after the outbreak was linked to an airport last week. Beijing is being considered to be at zero risk of the virus, reported AFP.
