COVID Update: Over 53,000 New Cases, Recovery Rate Close to 70%

India has reported 23,601 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours and 871 people died. The tally has been pushed beyond 2.26 million. India had been recording over 60,000 cases for the past four consecutive days.

The Union Health ministry dashboard shows that India has 28.21% of active COVID-19 cases, 69.80% recovered patients and 1.99% fatalities.

In the last 24 hours, 47,746 patients were discharged from the hospital. The Health Ministry data shows that the total number of people recovered as 1,583,489. The ministry attributed the recovery rate to aggressive testing, comprehensive tracking, and efficient treatment.

The expert committee on vaccine administration will be meeting tomorrow to consider the logistics and ethical aspects of the procurement and administration of vaccines against the coronavirus disease.

The committee will be speaking with stakeholders, state governments, and vaccine manufacturers. The committee is tasked with the identification of the vaccine, financing the purchase, distribution, and administration.
