COVID Updates: Daily Case Count Drops To 83,809 in India, Tally Close to 5 Million

The Union Health Ministry said that 83,809 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours. Even though this is a drop, the overall tally is at 49,30,236. 

The Union health ministry said that over 60% of the active COVID-19 cases are in five states - Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.

Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, on Monday, said that there are 13 ongoing clinical trials for COVID-19 patients with repurposed drugs and traditional knowledge combined with modern medicinal approaches.

There are 9,90,061 active cases in India and 38,59,399 patients have recovered. India has a recovery rate of 78% at the moment. According to John Hopkins University, India has the highest number of recovered patients in the world. Brazil is closeby with 37,23,206 recoveries.

The death toll in the country has reached 80,776 with 1,054 fatalities yesterday. 

The United States, India, and Brazil are the worst affected countries in the world.
