NEW DELHI: Dr NK Arora, Covid Working Group chief, said that a single shot of Covishield had up to 61% effectiveness against the Delta strain.
About the time interval between the two shots of COVID-19, WHO suggested that 6-8 weeks interval may be good, but the working group decided to look at the real-life data coming in from the United Kingdom.
Union Ministry of Health announced the decision to change the gap from 6-8 weeks to 12-16 weeks because the vaccine supplies were coming in short and they wanted to provide more.
Dr Arora added that the protection from serious disease, hospitalisation, and death is similar whether one has received one dose or two doses of the vaccine.
India has reported 67,208 cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours and 2,330 deaths due to the disease.
There are 2,97,00,313 cases of COVID-19 in India and out of that, 8,26,740 are active cases, 2,84,91,670 people recovered and 3,81,903 people died.
