Toxic positivity is defined as a person's obsession with positive thinking backed by a belief that everyone should put a positive spin on all experiences, even tragic or traumatic ones.

Toxic positivity silences negative emotions, demean grief, and makes people feel under pressure to pretend to be happy.

It affects people's mental health because of their tendency to put on a false sense of happiness and downplay whatever they are struggling with.

Added to that, such people also discard the feelings of others, by imposing a false sense of manufactured positivity, no matter what state of mind they are in.
