NAGPUR: Nagpur police shut down the city's oldest red light, compromising the livelihood of sex workers.

Nagpur city police commissioner Amitesh Kumar ordered an abrupt shut down of the Gang Jamuna space, affecting over 2000 women's lives.

Nagpur Police sealed the roads leading to 'Ganga Jamuna' on August 15th. Police imposed Sec 144 after sex workers took to the streets to protect. Since then, many of the sex workers did not have income that month.

"With Rs 10,000 to 15,000 per month, how can one run the family? There are over 25 people in one family. How do we eat?" said a sex worker.

Nagpur Police said that they are putting a ban on prostitution because 109 minors have been arrested in the area in the last 10 days.

Running a brothel is punishable under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act (IPTA), 1956.
