India is seeing a decline in the number of new cases of COVID-19. The country recorded 55,342 new cases on Tuesday and it is the lowest in about two months. The ministry of health and family welfare said that the average of new COVID-19 cases has been declining for the past five weeks.
The total number of cases in India is 7,175,880. Maharashtra has the most number of active cases - 2,21,637, followed by Karnataka (1,20,289), Andhra Pradesh (46,295), and Tamil Nadu (44,095). The total number of active cases is 8,38,729.
The recovery rate in India is 86.36.
As the race to create a vaccine against coronavirus is intensifying, the World Health Organisation said that the shot may be ready for registration by the end of 2020 or early in 2021.
WHO chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan said that there are about 40 vaccine candidates at the moment in some stages of clinical trials. 10 of these vaccines are in their phase three trials, which will tell us about efficacy and safety.
The global infection tally has gone over 37 million with the US leading with 7,804,047 cases.
