COVID Update: Indian Reports 37,148 New Cases, Brazil to Test Vaccine

India recorded 37,148 new COVID positive cases in the past 24 hours and 587 people died due to the infection.     

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka continue to be the worst-hit states. Maharashtra has reported over 80,000 new cases for five days in a row, including yesterday. The state health minister Rajesh Tope denied the speculation that community spread has begun in the state.

On the other hand, Delhi has witnessed a reduction in new cases, and over one lakh people have been cured in the past month.

The Indian Council of Medical Research said that a total of 1,43,81,303 samples have been tested in India. And, 3,33,395 samples were tested yesterday.

The University of Oxford has been reported to develop a vaccine that is shown promise. "However, side effects like fever and muscle pain are still prevailing", reported medical journal Lancet. Brazil is set to begin clinical trials for a Chinese-made vaccine. First does will be given to 900 volunteers.

The death toll in Brazil has surpassed 80,000 and it continues to be the second worst-hit country in the world. China has reported 11 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. Germany's tally rose to 201,823 with 522 new cases reported yesterday.
