COVID Updates: India Records Over 52,000 New Cases, Death Toll Nears 39,000

India recorded 52,050 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours and the total number rose to 18,55, 745. The death toll is nearing 39,000 with the 803 fatalities on Monday. 6,61,182 samples were tested on Monday. So far, India has tested 2,08,64,750 samples. 

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state with 4,41,228 cases and 15,576 deaths. The state witnessed 260 fatalities yesterday. Tamil Nadu and Delhi are in second and third places.

Former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah tested positive for Covid-19 this morning. He announced the news on Twitter. Siddaramaiah has been admitted to the hospital.

The health ministry of Telangana cancelled the permission given to private hospitals to treat COVID-19 patients.

The US recorded 46,321 new positive cases in the past 24 hours and has a total of 4,711,323 cases at the moment. Mexico confirmed 4,767 cases and the UK has reported 900 new coronavirus infections.

Spain has been witnessing a second wave in the past few days. On July 15, the average number of cases had dropped to 700 but it rose to 2,300 on August 2.
