COVID Updates: Over 47,000 New Cases, Tally Crosses 14.83 Lakh

The Union Health Ministry said that the country has 47,703 new cases in the past 24 hours. India had over 97,000 new victims in the last two days. 654 people died yesterday and this has taken the death toll over 33,000 mark.

India has been reporting over 45,000 new cases for six consecutive days. The tally has reached 14,83,156 and 9,52,743 have recovered. 35,176 patients were discharged yesterday.

India has a recovery rate of 64.23%.

The government has been conducting tests and 1,73,34,885 samples were tested until Monday.

The clinical trials of the COVID-19 vaccine are progressing in many countries. Dr Balram Bhargava, director-general of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), said that India controls nearly 60% of the global supply of all kinds of vaccines. India is one of the biggest manufacturers and markets of vaccines in the world.

Pune-based Serum Institute of India has made a deal with Oxford University and AstraZeneca to produce the vaccine. The vaccine developed by Oxford has been the most promising one so far and it is in phase III of human trials.
