India Records Lowest Single-day COVID-19 Spike in Three Months

India recorded 36,470 new COVID-19 infections in the past 24 hours. This is the lowest single-day spike since July 18. The Union Health Ministry reported that the overall caseload is nearing 8 million with 7,946,429 cases.

At least 488 patients succumbed to the disease in the past 24 hours. This has taken the death toll to 119,502. 63,842 recoveries were also reported yesterday. The recovery rate in India is nearing 90.23% and active cases continue to remain below the seven lakh mark. Only 8.26% of the total tally (625,857) are active cases.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 10,44,894 samples were tested for COVID-19 till 26 October.

The Health Ministry said that it is aiming to take the country's Case Fatality Rate to 1% and sustain it. There are 14 states and Union Territories in India that are reporting a CFR less than 1% at the moment.

The United States, Russia, and France along with many other countries in the Northern Hemisphere are seeing a tidal wave of new COVID-19 cases. A vaccine being developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca Plc produced immune responses in both the elderly and young people.
