The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Mundra Port in Gujarat found the heroine in two containers marked as carrying talc. The DRI said that the consignments were originated in Afghanistan and shipped from a port in Iran, reported NDTV
One container carried nearly 2,000 kg of heroin and another one carried nearly 1,000 kg. The agency conducted searches in Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chennai, Gandhidham, and Mandvi in relation to the bust.
Officials arrested two men in relation to the case. The involvement of Afghan nationals has been allegedly uncovered but no one has been arrested so far.
Afghanistan is the biggest producer of heroin in the world and supplies 80-90% of the global output. Experts say that the Taliban is largely funding their operations by selling heroin. It has also played a major role in their return to power in August.
