Actress Payal Ghosh has officially lodged an FIR against him. She had accused director, Anurag Kashyap of sexual harassment on September 19. She tweeted that Kashyap was sexually inappropriate towards her. She tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and requested him to take action against the director.
Her lawyer Nitin Satpute tweeted that the FIR is for the offence rape, wrongful restrain, wrongful confinement, and outraging the modesty of a woman.
Anurag Kashyap has refuted all the allegations. He also called the accusations an attempt to silence him. He tweeted that his counsel has advised him to not comment on the matter. His lawyer released an official treatment on his behalf.
Many Bollywood celebs have come out in support of Anurag Kashyap including ex-wives Kalki Koechlin and Aarti Bajaj. Kalki said that Anurag is a champion of women's rights who have fought for the freedom of women both on and off-screen. She recalled that Kashyap stood for her integrity even after the divorce.
Aarti said that Kashyap is a person who creates the safest place for women and she sees it first hand with their daughter.
Actress Taapsee Pannu said that Kashyap is the biggest feminist she knows. Irfan Khan's son Babil Khan said that it is a shame to see the #MeToo movement being misused against a person who has been crusading for ‘equality in an excruciatingly patriarchal industry’.
Anurag Kashyap’s former assistant Jaydeep Sarkar took to social media to share an incident from years ago when Kashyap got upset when an actress suggested sexual favours in exchange for a role.
Actors Radhika Apte, Surveen Chawla, Huma Qureshi, and filmmaker Anubhav Sinha also came out in support of Anurag Kashyap.
