The Tamil Nadu government announced a 10% increase in the quota for women in government jobs. Now, 40% of the jobs will be reserved for women. The ruling DMK party had promised welfare and security schemes for women in its 2021 election manifesto.
Finance and Human Resource Management Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan made the announcement in the state Assembly and said that it is imperative to increase the quota for women in government jobs to bring in gender equality, reported The News Minute.
He added that the Tamil Nadu government will extend the age limit for state recruitment exams by two additional years owing to the ongoing pandemic. The state will prioritise employing those who lost parents due to Covid-19. People who studied in state government schools and first-generation students will also get special consideration.
