NEW DELHI: 24-year-old rape survivor who was set on fire by her rapist who was out on bail died. The doctor who treated her at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital said that she suffered from a cardiac arrest and they couldn't resuscitate her.
The two accused in the gang rape Shivam Trivedi and Shubham Trivedi along with Hari Shankar Trivedi, Umesh Bajpai, and Ram Kishore Trivedi stopped her on the way to court and threatened to withdraw the case. When she refused, they set her body ablaze.
She was forced to run towards the hospital and her body suffers from 90% burns. She was airlifted to Delhi and admitted to the Safdarjung Hospital.
The five men have been arrested and remanded to 14-day judicial custody.
Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Mukesh Meshram constituted a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate this matter.
This case comes in the light of encounter in Hyderabad where the accused in Vet gangrape and murder were shot dead by the police.
Unnao survivor's father, who is a blacksmith, said that he will find solace only if the police kill all the accused.
The victim's uncle said that the accused also threatened to burn down their shop if they don't withdraw the case. The Unnao survivor gave a statement before where she revealed that she was stabbed and kerosene was poured all over her by the accused.
This case is seen as a major lapse of judgment from the authorities end as rapists were not supposed to be given bail.
