THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, KERALA: A case has been filed against Malayalam dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi and trans activist Diya Sana for confronting a man who posted an abusive, misogynist video attacking feminists in Kerala.
Two women attacked the YouTuber, Vijay P Nair, by pouring black oil on him and slapping him for posting the derogatory video.
His YouTube video, 'Why do feminists in India, especially Kerala, not wear underwear', targetted and subjected several prominent women's rights activists in Kerala to slut-shaming and derogatory, including Bhagyalakshmi, Rehana Fatima, Bindu Ammini, Trupti Desai, and poet Sugatha Kumari.
The FIR is filed in the Thampanoor police station, Thiruvananthapuram, under IPC sections 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault), 294 B (sings, recites or utters any obscene song), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 392 (punishment for robbery), etc. based on a complaint by Nair himself.
Bhagyalaskhmi and Diya on Saturday entered his office at the Gandhari Amman Kovil, and live-streamed both of them confronting the man and they also made him apologise for his derogatory video.
Though he apologised for hurting women in the Facebook live stream, he said to the media later that he is not sorry for the video he made against women.
Bhagyalakshmi told the media that she will proudly go to jail if convicted. She pointed out that Vijay P Nair was not convicted for his misogynist despite complaints filed before the cyber cell.
