Deepika Padukone broke down into tears during the trailer launch of new movie ‘Chhapaak' in Mumbai.
“It was an incredible journey emotionally and I feel irrespective of how it is received and how it does, I am sure that this will be the most special film of my career, said the actress.
The actress was asked to talk about the movie after the trailer was shown to people present there.
Meghna said that she had not seen the complete trailer earlier and that is the reason why she felt overwhelmed.
The film is based on the life of Laxmi Agarwal who was attacked with acid by a man at the age of 16 for rejecting his advances. She had been fighting against the availability of acid before the law.
The movie is directed by Meghna Gulzar and is co-produced by Deepika Padukone and Fox Star Studios.
"It is relevant in today's times where the situation of women in the country is getting worse right now. I am really happy that Deepika gave her face for Malti and completely let the character take over," said the director.
Deepika thanked the director for trusting her with the role and hoped the film will have an impact on the audience.
She added that she instantly had an emotional connection with the story, which is rare to come across in an artist's career.
This will be a major film for Deepika since ‘Padmaavat’, which was released last year. Meghna Gulzar's previous release 'Raazi' became a critical and commercial success. The film won Filmfare awards for best film and best director for Meghna Gulzar.
Chhapaak is scheduled to hit screens on January 10, 2020. The movie also features Vikrant Massey in the lead role. He plays the character Amol, Laxmi Agarwal's real-life partner Amol Dixit, who stayed by her side in her fight for justice.
