MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Dia Mirza married businessman Vaibhav Rekhi on February 15.
Actress shared on social media that the couple chose to break several stereotypes and traditions for a progressive wedding.
The couple chose to forgo the traditional rituals of Kanyadaan and Bidaai, and the wedding was solemnised by a woman priest, Sheela Atta.
Kanyadaan symbolises the father 'giving his daughter' away to her husband. This ritual was debated by several people notably by women priests, saying that it doesn't coincide with a woman's agency.
Bidaai marks the departure of the bride from her father's home to her husband's home permanently.
