Delhi Mental Health Institute Slams Kangana's Comments On Depression

Delhi's well-known mental health institute, VIMHANS, called out actress Kangana Ranaut's tweet where she claimed the depression is a result of drug abuse. This was her dig on actress Deepika Padukone, who had tried to spread awareness on depression after Rajput's suicide.

VIMHANS's statement said that drug abuse is not the sole cause and depression is a health disorder, that can affect an individual just like a fever.

They cited the World Health Organisation (WHO) that defined depression as a common mental health disorder that is very different from mood fluctuations. A study by the World Health Organisation and NCMH (National Care Of Medical Health) suggested that India is the most depressed country in the world where one out of six people is affected.

Earlier, Kangana faced heat for tweeting that there is no proof of mental health disorder. She also trolled a mental health expert by asking if depression can be diagnosed through MRI or other reports.
