MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra said that she regrets endorsing fairness cream brands and about facing hostility regarding the same in India.
She said that at the time, endorsing skin lightening cream and such brands was a norm.
"It’s awful. And it was awful for me, for a little girl who used to put talcum-powder cream on my face because I believed that dark skin was not pretty," she said.
She stopped participating in such campaigns before she moved to the Hollywood industry.
In a 2015 interview with Barkha Dutt, she had mentioned her regrets. She was also bullied as a kid due to her dark skin complexion.
She is gearing up for the release of her memoir 'Unfinished' which captures her long journey.
After the police killing of George Floyd in the US, there has been a global reckoning against fairness cream and such brands because it perpetuated the idea of beauty and its association with fairness.
