MUMBAI: An official Bollywood remake of the Telugu blockbuster film 'Bhaagamathie' has been announced. The film is titled 'Durgavati' and has actress Bhumi Pednekar in the lead role.
G Ashok will be directing this film and produced by Akshay Kumar, Bhushan Kumar and Vikram Malhotra.
'Bhaagamathie' is the 2018 hit horror film starring Anushka Shetty in the lead role as an IAS officer who is charged with her husband's murder. She is taken to an abandoned castle for interrogation and gets possessed by the spirit of a queen.
The film was praised for a strong female lead and twist in the storytelling.

Bhumi Pednekar took to Twitter to express her excitement for the film. She worked Akshay Kumar before in 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha'.
She was last seen in 'Saand Ki Aankh' opposite Taapsee Pannu and 'Bala' opposite Ayushmann Khurrana.
She will be seen in 'Pati Patni Aur Woh', in which she co-stars with Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, which is set to be released on December 6th.
Akshay Kumar has a lot of films on his platter such as 'Good Newwz', 'Sooryavanshi', 'Laxmmi Bomb' and 'Prithviraj'.
