Suriya Thanks People For Support After 'Jai Bhim' Threats

CHENNAI: South Indian star Suriya thanked his fans for supporting him in the wake of threats and a legal notice after the release of his new film 'Jai Bhim.'

Armed police were deployed at his home in Chennai's T Nagar area following threats of violence against him. 

Fans started trending #WeStandWithSuriya to show support.

A member of the regional political party named PMK offered Rs 1 lakh for anyone who physically attacked the actor. Party leader S Palaniswamy has been booked by the police.

Vanniyar Sangam, a group that represents the Vanniyar community that is dominant in northern parts of the state, filed legal notice against the actor and film's director, claiming Rs 5 crores in damages.

PMK community batted for reservation for the Vanniyars, who have been classified as a Most Backward Community in Tamil Nadu.

'Jai Bhim' was released on Amazon Prime this year to positive reviews and acclaim. Movie deals with police atrocities against marginalised caste people.
