NEW DELHI: Indian skipper Virat Kohli gave his support to wife and actress Anushka Sharma over the "selectors getting her tea" row triggered by Farokh Engineer.
Virat said that Anushka always sits in the family box and none of the selectors is present there.
Former wicket-keeper Farokh Engineer, while lashing out at the selectors, said that they are focusing more on serving tea to Anushka Sharma.
Sharma responded to this comment sternly on social media, highlighting that she always chose not to retort when she is named and shamed for Virat's poor performance.
Virat said that Anushka is blamed because she is successful in her own field and gets noticed. Anushka came for a single match during the 2019 WorldCup, which was during the match against Sri Lanka. At the time she sat in the family box which is away from the selector's box.
Farokh Engineer later clarified his comments saying that Anushka is a lovely person and he didn't want to drag her into the controversy.
Anushka was notoriously blamed for Virat's poor performance during the cricket matches. Notably, during the 2015 WorldCup semi-finals against Australia. Anushka had gone to watch the match but Virat got out for a duck.
The live cameras specifically focussed on Anushka after his dismissal, where she was seen with a shocked look on her face.
Apart from that, Anushka was named and blamed for being part of closed-door meetings and crucial selection processes without proof.
She was blamed overstaying her authorised time with Virat during foreign tours, although the truth is that she always followed protocols.
Virat and Anushka tied the knot in 2017 after three years of dating.
