NEW DELHI: India has reported 52,972 cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours, pushing the total number of cases to 18,03,695.
There are 5,79,357 active cases, 11,86,203 people have recovered and 38,135 people died.
The Union Home Minister Amit Shah tested positive for COVID-19 and has been admitted to Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, Haryana.
Shah tweeted that his health is fine but got himself hospitalised on the advice of doctors as he is also suffering from co-morbidities.
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa tested positive for COVID-19 and one of his daughters also contracted the disease. Earlier, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also tested positive for COVID-19.
Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan tested negative for COVID-19 and has been discharged from the hospital after his daughter-in-law and actress Aishwarya Rai did the same. However, his son Abhishek Bachchan is still positive for COVID-19 and also suffers from co-morbidities.
The Union Health Ministry said that the number of recoveries is more and it works as a silver lining.
