Arun Jaitley To Be Cremated Today Afternoon On Bank Of Yamuna River

NEW DELHI: Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who died on Saturday, will be cremated today in the afternoon with state honours.

The Veteran BJP leader died on Saturday at 12.07 pm in Delhi’s AIIMS, where he has been admitted from the last August 9 following complaints of breathlessness.

Jaitley’s body, which was carried to his residence in south Delhi last evening, is being moved to the BJP headquarters in a decorated vehicle. His body will be kept there from 10.30 to 1pm until then the party leaders and workers could pay tribute to him.

After 1pm the body will be taken to the Nigambodh Ghat on the banks of Yamuna River where the last rites will take place at 2:30 pm.

Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and hundreds of prominent leaders even from oppositions have visited his home last evening to pay respects.

This morning his home were flooded with politicians. NCP leaders Sharad Pawar and Praful Patel, RLD leader Ajit Singh and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu and Senior Congress leader Motilal Vohra, have visited his home.

Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi who visited his home to pay respect, hugged Jaitley’s wife Sangeetha Jaitley and handed over a letter saying that she also joins their grief.

Sonia Gandhi also said that Jaitley was a great leader and attracted friends across the political spectrum.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was at Bahrain on Saturday, was seen becoming emotional in an event there by remembering his friend Jaitley. PM said that he couldn’t imagine that he was miles away from the country when his friend gone away.

“Few days before we lost our former External Affairs Minister Behen Sushma Ji and today I lost my friend Arun,” PM added.

PM Modi who immediately called Jatiley’s family and they told Modi not to cancel the important event in Bahrain.

Arun Jaitley was a former Supreme Court lawyer. Later he joined politics and become an important part in PM Modi’s government. He held Finance Ministry and he had enacted the bankruptcy code and the Goods and Services Tax or GST.

Arun Jaitley became physically low after his kidney transplant in May last year. Because of his bad health he stayed back from the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
